TuNur project has been re-evaluated by the DESERTEC Foundation and has been found in conformity with DESERTEC principles, criteria and indicators. These principles take into account the water use of the project, its socio-economic impact and benefits, its environmental responsibility and conservation and the reliability of the electricity supply. TuNur Ltd is DESERTEC Foundation's partner since 2012. TuNur project is the first DESERTEC project.
Dr. Till Stenzel and Kevin Sara, respectively CEO and Chairman of TuNur Ltd, published in the Energy Industry Times an article about the realization of the vision of exporting solar power from North Africa to Europe through the TuNur project. CSP technology is an attractive solution as it can deliver dispatchable power thanks to thermal storage. TuNur project is the first gigawatt-scale solar export project between Tunisia and Europe which has already achieved major milestones. On the 8th of February 2013, Tunisian daily newspapers La Presse and El Maghreb published articles TuNur explaining the TuNur project clarifying the water and the land issues stressing on its positive impacts especially environmental and economic.
