As part of the consultation with local stakeholders in Gabès on the environmental and social impact study of TuNur’s “Taqet Gabès 10 MW” project, our company had the opportunity to meet, on January 19, 2022, with the stakeholders of the Governorate of Gabès and the team of the Tunisian company “Environmental Assessment and Management- EAM” to further discuss the environmental and social impact study of the 10MW solar project of TuNur based in Gabès Sud during the meeting of the Regional Committee of investment organized by the Governorate of Gabès.

The meeting took place within the Governorate under the supervision of the first delegate in charge of leading the Governorate of Gabès, Mr. Kaddour Brahmi, and in the presence of the delegate of Gabès Sud, Mr. Sadok Saddam, and the mayor of Tebelbou, Mr. Nouman El Jmal. Other stakeholders were present such as the district chiefs of STEG, SONEDE and La Garde Nationale. Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture (CRDA), the Ministry of Tourism (ONTT) and APIA…

During this meeting, the committee examined the environmental and social impacts study of the project for the production of electricity from solar energy, which will be concentrated in the area of ​​El Mdou by the company TuNur. This study was prepared and presented by EAM which is an experienced Tunisian company in safety and environment consulting. EAM has obtained ISO-9001, version 2000 certification.

The outcome of the meeting was encouraging and favourable for all parties. The impact study of the “Taqet Gabès 10 MW” project has proven to be very advantageous for the Gabès region on the socio-economic level and without any major impact on the environment and the living conditions of the inhabitants of the region.

The authorities of Gabès have shown themselves ready to facilitate all the procedures relating to the projects.

The TuNur team also highlighted TuNur’s interest in participating in the promotion of investment in the Gabès region and in Tunisia in general and its commitment to the sustainable socio-economic development of Gabès.

TuNur and Hitachi Energy work toward the export of renewables from Tunisia to Europe

TuNur have entered a cooperation agreement with Hitachi Energy to evaluate the solutions for large-scale renewable energy exports across the Mediterranean region using high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology, helping to foster renewable energy deployment, job creation and sustainable development in Tunisia, and to further decarbonize European grids. HVDC is the most feasible technology for transferring such large amounts of renewable energy over very long distances with minimal power losses.

Tunisia has important targets for renewable energy deployment to support its growing energy demand and decarbonization objectives. In parallel this abundant and infinite energy can be exported to neighbouring load centers, creating a sustainable export industry. IEA Special Report: Renewable electricity growth is accelerating faster than ever worldwide, supporting the emergence of the new global energy economy

The growth of the world’s capacity to generate electricity from solar panels, wind turbines and other renewable technologies is on course to accelerate over the coming years.

By 2026, global renewable electricity capacity is forecast to rise more than 60% from 2020 levels to over 4 800 GW – equivalent to the current total global power capacity of fossil fuels and nuclear combined. Renewables are set to account for almost 95% of the increase in global power capacity through 2026, with solar PV alone providing more than half. The amount of renewable capacity added over the period of 2021 to 2026 is expected to be 50% higher than from 2015 to 2020. This is driven by stronger support from government policies and more ambitious clean energy goals announced before and during the COP26 Climate Change Conference.

One Sun One World One Grid – World’s first transnational solar power grid network launched in Glasgow

The India and UK-led global supergrid program seeks to connect 140 countries to round-the-clock green and renewable power during the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow.

This global supergrid project, known as the Green Grids Initiative – One Sun One World One Grid (GGI-OSOWOG), aims to harness solar energy wherever the sun is shining, ensuring that generated electricity flows to areas that need it most.

As part of its first phase, the project will drive interconnectivity across the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. The second will focus on African power pools, while the third will drive global green grids interconnections.

The GGI-OSOWOG will bring together a global coalition of national governments, international financial and technical organizations, legislators, power system operators, and knowledge leaders to accelerate the construction of the new infrastructure needed for a world powered by clean energy.

IEA launches new annual report

The Global Hydrogen Review is a new annual publication by the International Energy Agency to track progress in hydrogen production and demand, as well as in other critical areas such as policy, regulation, investments, innovation and infrastructure development.

The report is an output of the Clean Energy Ministerial Hydrogen Initiative (CEM H2I) and is intended to inform energy sector stakeholders on the status and future prospects of hydrogen while serving as an input to the discussions at the Hydrogen Energy Ministerial Meeting (HEM) organised in Japan.

On October 06, 2021, TuNur’s CEO, Mr. Daniel Rich, and the Head of Finance, Mrs. Rachida Guermazi, had the pleasure to meet with the Governor of Gabes, Mr. Monji Thameur. The meeting focused on the progress of “Taqet Gabes” the 10 MW Solar PV project in southern Gabes that TuNur secured as part of the 3rd Round of the Authorization Regime and will soon implement in collaboration with local and international partners.

Skyrocketing energy, carbon prices already make green hydrogen competitive

Antonio Delgado Rigal, chief executive of energy forecasting service AleaSoft, tells pv magazine that skyrocketing gas and electricity prices are putting the global economy under strong pressure, while also opening up huge opportunities for solar, renewables and green hydrogen. He says current gas and electricity prices, along with rising CO2 prices, already make green hydrogen competitive. He therefore calls for immediate action on building new capacity, but acknowledges that a quick end is not yet in sight for rising prices.

EIG Global Energy Partners submits world record low bid of $0.03399/kWh for CSP technology in Chile’s renewables auction

The renewable energy auction held the by the Chilean National Energy Commission (CNE) has not only seen the lowest bid ever recorded for a large scale PV project in Latin America – $0.01332/kWh – but has also delivered a bid of $0.03399/kWh for a concentrated solar power (CSP) project, which is the lowest offer ever reported for an energy auction at a global level to date.

The bid was submitted for the 390 MW Likana Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) project under development by EIG Global Energy Partners.
